The Symphony Orchestra of the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana is composed of the most accomplished students from the Bachelor, Master, and Continuing Education programs, as well as distinguished alumni of the University School of Music.
Over the years, the orchestra has performed major symphonic masterpieces both in Switzerland and abroad. This has been made possible thanks to the collaboration with renowned soloists such as Robert Cohen, Johannes Goritzki, David Johnson, François Benda, Gabor Meszaros, Milan Rericha, Enrico Fagone, José Carreras, Yuval Gotlibovich, Francesco Tamiati, Enrico Dindo, Sergej Krylov, Anna Kravtchenko, Monika Leskovar, Lorenzo Micheli, and Massimo Quarta, as well as internationally acclaimed conductors including Lü Ja, Wolf-Dieter Hauschild, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Alexander Vedernikov, John Neschling, Mario Venzago, Vladimir Verbitsky, Xian Zhang, Tomáš Netopil, Alexander Lonquich, Marc Andreae, Giovanni Antonini, Francesco Angelico, Alessandro Moccia, Massimo Quarta, Stefano Molardi, Marc Kissóczy, Christoph König, Diego Fasolis, Alessio Allegrini, Leo McFall, and George Pehlivanian.
Noteworthy are the orchestra’s collaborations on large-scale symphonic projects with the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana (OSI), including Eine Alpensinfonie by Richard Strauss and Symphony No. 6 "Pathétique" by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky under the baton of Alain Lombard, and Symphony No. 9 by Gustav Mahler conducted by Markus Poschner. Additional significant partnerships include those with the Sinfonieorchester der ZHdK, performing works such as Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 7 "Leningrad" in concerts held at LAC (Lugano Arte e Cultura) and the Tonhalle Maag in Zurich.
