Choir

The choir consists of approximately 30 to 40 students, depending on the nature of the project, drawn from various programs within the University School of Music. It is also open to external participants. The choir's activities offer students the opportunity to explore a broad and engaging repertoire. Choral works from all historical periods are studied and presented in end-of-semester concerts.
Typically, the choir undertakes three projects per year, often accompanied by organ or piano, but also performing a cappella, with instrumental ensembles, or with chamber orchestra.
Since 2010, the choir has been directed by Maestro Mark Kölliker. Over the years, it has realized numerous artistically significant projects spanning various periods and styles. These include a cappella programs featuring works by Britten, Langlais, Poulenc, Nysted, Rutter, Rheinberger, Mendelssohn, and Lauridsen, as well as major sacred repertoire such as the Requiem by Mozart, Duruflé, Rutter, and Fauré, and Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem. The choir has also performed Le Roi David by Honegger, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Langlais’ Messe solennelle, d’Astorga’s Stabat Mater, Schubert’s Mass in G Major and Mass in A-flat Major, Dvořák’s Mass in D Major, Britten’s Missa Brevis and Te Deum, Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms, and Schumann’s Missa sacra.
The repertoire further includes cantatas and oratorios by Bach (including the Weihnachtsoratorium and Cantatas Nos. 95 and 99), as well as works by Fauré, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Durante, Caldara, and Zelenka. Programs have also focused on the French Romantic repertoire for choir and organ, and on folk-inspired pieces such as Brahms’ Zigeunerlieder and Schumann’s Zigeunerleben.
