Amid ever-growing International concerns over freedom of press and expression, the Hungarian government led by Mr. Orbán has fired and replaced the heads and board of the Budapest University of Theatre and Film Arts (SZFE), putting an end to the autonomy of the school.
Several faculty and staff members resigned as a sign of protest, whilst the students have occupied the school in order to raise public awareness.
Art schools are the laboratory where tomorrow’s citizens develop and refine their intellectual critical skills. The Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana firmly condemns any attempt to affect, limit or undermine education in the artistic field, and expresses its strong support for all the colleagues and students who believe that independence and freedom are the essential, non-negotiable values upon which our identity was built.
